- Mamma Mia! - Excitement on Skopelos

By Roger Fox - Glossa Houses
Ighios Ioannis Monastery in Skopelos IslandNot only the bees are buzzing – the whole of the island is buzzing with excitement about Mamma Mia the film of the musical, which was shot in Skopelos island, particularly on location at Kastani beach, Glisteri and the monastery of Aghios Ioannis. You will recognise the monastery up on the rock at Aghios Ioannis – even though the film-makers considered it not big enough for Holywood standards and built a temporary structure on top of the real one for more impact. Happily the real monastery has now been restored as beautiful as ever.

The film opens in London on 10thJuly and is directed by Phyllida Lloyd. It stars Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth.

- Let’s buy a house in Greece

By Jonathan - Angels Greek Island Homes

A street in GlossaA friend suggested I write a blog. I looked at him shocked as if he had fallen from a tree. “A blog” I said not really knowing what it is. So he said “Well you have a website selling property in the Greek Islands. Write about Skopelos, You know, the Island in the Aegean where your property sales are focused. At this point I mentioned that I live in London. “Well” he said, “tell people about your experiences of selling houses and land in Skopelos”.

So, I thought, what I can say about Skopelos Island that has not already been said. The fact that it is officially known as the greenest island in Greece since 1997. That pine trees sweep down to the sea and 50% is covered by forest. That the quiet beaches and stunning natural environment make Skopelos the most perfect Greek Island hide-away.

Or, should I write about lying on the beach on a hot hot day, looking at the sea, being lazy and dinking a cold beer.

Maybe I could just write about our life in Glossa, sitting in our courtyard at sunset having a romantic meal of freshly barbecued chicken and drinking countless glasses of rose wine, while looking at the stunning views of the sea below us and stars above.  I think Glossa is a very beautiful place to be. It cures my wife’s asthma and makes her look and act 10 years younger. Why would I not like it?

Then recently, it dawned on me. I’ll write about our experiences of buying a house in Greece!

So there you have it!  That’s what I’ll do. Every week I’ll add something and if no one can learn from it, maybe I can.
